WA GOP platform echoes Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda
Seattle, WA – This week, InvestigateWest published a report on the Washington GOP’s extremism and their anti-freedom agenda. In April, during the state GOP’s convention, delegates approved a resolution denouncing democracy. Adding to the chaos, delegates also “called for an end to mail-in voting and a repeal of the 17th Amendment, which made the United States more democratic by allowing people to directly elect their senator.”
According to the article, “[in] an increasingly blue state, the controversy over the Washington GOP’s resolutions raises questions about whether the party is out of step with even average Washington Republicans…”
When asked about his party’s anti-freedom agenda, Washington GOP chair, Jim Walsh, stubbornly dug his feet in even more, spouting off conspiracy theories and defending convicted felon Donald Trump, who tried and failed to overturn the 2020 election results.
During their contention, the Washington GOP also echoed the same rhetoric and policies in MAGA’s Project 2025, a fascist playbook written by former Trump officials that would give the disgraced former president unchecked power, with calls to eliminate public education and environmental protections for clean air and water.
“The Washington GOP and MAGA Republicans know they can’t win voters over with their ideas, so now they’re trying to overthrow our democracy,” said Shasti Conrad, chair of the WA State Democrats. “As Democrats, we stand for democracy. That means listening and responding to the issues that matter most to voters, from support for working families and small businesses to protecting our fundamental rights, including the freedom to make your own health care decisions.”
The Washington State Democratic Party is committed to advancing progressive policy, empowering the grassroots, and ensuring Democratic victories up and down the ballot. Chair of the Washington Democrats, Shasti Conrad, is the first Indian-American woman to chair a major state party.
