Chair Conrad Statement on Let’s Go Washington PDC Violations and Fines
Seattle, WA – Today, Washington State Democrats Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement regarding the Washington Public Disclosure Commission levying $20,000 in fines against Let’s Go Washington for campaign finance violations:
“Washington’s Public Disclosure Laws uphold the philosophy that sunlight is the best disinfectant to avert corruption in our politics. The Public Disclosure Commission fined Let’s Go Washington because of their egregious violations that hid money and subcontractors from Washington voters. Since the beginning, Washington Democrats have been outspoken that the Let’s Go Washington slate of initiatives have deceived voters to act against their best interests.
“This $20,000 fine is just a drop in the bucket compared to the massive tax cut hedge-fund mega-millionaire Brian Heywood and his wealthy cronies are seeking off the backs of working Washington families. The gas discount events they continue to hold violate Washington criminal statutes against offering gratuities to induce people to vote yes or no on a ballot measure. I encourage the Public Disclosure Commission to refer these criminal violations to the AG’s office to hold Let’s Go Washington accountable for their actions, and show Washington voters the depths to which Let’s Go Washington will sink to offer tax cuts to millionaires and polluting corporations while gutting state funding for basics like education and a healthy environment.”
The Washington State Democratic Party is committed to advancing progressive policy, empowering the grassroots, and ensuring Democratic victories up and down the ballot. Chair of the Washington Democrats, Shasti Conrad, is the first Indian-American woman to chair a major state party.
