Chair Conrad Statement on Election Night 2024

Seattle, WA – Today, Chair Shasti Conrad, released the following statement regarding 2024 election results:

“Congratulations to our winning candidates and the army of campaign staff and volunteers who helped us make history last night. Washington voters made it clear that MAGA has no place in our beautiful state. While the national results are not what we worked so hard to achieve, our candidates and campaigns delivered dramatic wins for working Washingtonians.

“Washington Democrats invested and built one of the most robust field operations in state history. Our focus on relational organizing – meeting voters where they are and bringing them along with us to the polls – exceeded our expectations and likely helped us retain every statewide office for Democrats and crucial Congressional seats. Washington Democrats knocked 248,000 doors, made 1.5 million calls and ensured voters knew how and where to vote.

“Votes are still being counted, but we know a few things for sure. Washington state elected its first Black statewide official in Attorney General elect Nick Brown. Democrats likely grew our majorities in the state legislature. We rejected three dangerous and misleading statewide initiatives and the other is too close to call. And we retained the Governor’s mansion by electing Governor elect Bob Ferguson – if anyone knows how to Trump-proof our state, it’s Bob.

“When the final votes are counted and analyzed, we will undertake the hard work of rebuilding a winning national coalition that prioritizes choice – choice over our bodies, choice over who we love, and choices that protect our clean air and water. Washington Democrats will never stop fighting for a more perfect union.”

The Washington State Democratic Party is committed to advancing progressive policy, empowering the grassroots, and ensuring Democratic victories up and down the ballot. Chair of the Washington Democrats, Shasti Conrad, is the first Indian-American woman to chair a major state party.
