ABOUT WADEMS

Who We Are

We are the Democratic Party in Washington state. We work to elect Democrats, uphold Democratic values, and support Democrats across the state.

We are our elected officials. We are our candidates. We are the activists who knock on doors in neighborhoods in every corner state, and the voters who make their voice heard at the ballot box.

How the Washington State Democratic Party works

This graphic shows the organizational structure of the Washington State Democratic Party.

The party is managed by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee (WSDCC). The WSDCC is made up of individuals with two different gender identities from each legislative district and county. They meet several times a year in locations around the state. Every two years the WSDCC elects a chair. They also elect other members of the executive board, nominate statewide candidates, pass resolutions, and perform other party business. The chair hires staff and manages a central office, currently located in Seattle. Every two years, the party runs a coordinated campaign, which works to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

There is a Democratic organization in your legislative district and county. They hold monthly meetings, nominate and endorse local candidates, recruit and manage precinct committee officers, pass resolutions, and campaign for local candidates. They are most in touch with issues affecting your community. Find your county organization and legislative district organization.

The base unit of organization is the precinct. A precinct may contain several blocks in an urban area or a group of houses in suburban or rural areas. To learn which precinct you live in, look on your voter registration card. Each precinct is represented by a Democratic official called the precinct committee officer (PCO). PCOs are elected officials, and contested races appear on the primary ballot in even-numbered years.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is the national umbrella organization for the Democratic Party. It is currently presided over by Chair Jaime Harrison. Each state democratic party organization sends representatives to the DNC. The DNC takes the lead in setting the Democratic agenda for the nation. Visit the DNC website.
